The Foundation was constituted in Geneva on October 27, 1965 according to articles 80ss of the Swiss Civil Code. Two days later, it purchased the J-P Zeltner estate situated in Pregny/Chambésy, now housing the Orthodox Center. The idea of creating the Foundation and Center was conceived by Zachary C. Xintaras while serving the Orthodox parish in Lausanne. It was adopted by the Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras I and later approved by the Holy Synod.
